Upselling Techniques
Use Positive Language
- Say: “Many guests love pairing this drink with our croissant—would you like to try it?”
- Avoid: “You should get a muffin too.”
Offer Choices, Don’t Command
- Provide options: “Would you like a chocolate chip or blueberry muffin with that?”
- Let guests feel in control of their selection.
Highlight Benefits
- Explain why it’s a good addition: “This pastry pairs perfectly with your latte and is fresh out of the oven.”
Be Observant & Responsive
- Note body language and cues; don’t push if the guest seems uninterested.
- Offer suggestions when it naturally fits the conversation.
Practice Timing
Suggest extras after taking the order but before finalising payment, or while preparing drinks for wait times.
